About us

Mosquito control aims to minimize the likelihood of transmision of diseases like Zika, West Nile virus, dengue fever, malaria, and chikungunya. By reducing mosquito populations and contact with humans, mosquito control programs help safeguard public health and well-being.

prevention and control measures

Source Reduction

Eliminating or reducing mosquito breeding sites by removing standing water in containers, tires, and other areas where mosquitoes lay eggs.

Larviciding

Treating mosquito breeding sites with larvicides to kill mosquito larvae before they become adults.

Adulticiding

Using insecticides to kill adult mosquitoes, often through spraying in targeted areas.

public outreach and education

Informing the public about mosquito control measures and promoting personal protection strategies, such as using insect repellent and wearing protective clothing.

Resistance management

Implementing strategies to prevent mosquitoes from developing resistance to insecticides.

Objectives to achieve our primary goal

surveillance and monitoring

  • Tracking mosquito populations: Monitoring mosquito populations, including species identification and distribution, helps assess the risk of disease transmission.
  • Detecting disease outbreaks: Surveillance programs also monitor for disease outbreaks and identify areas at higher risk.
  • Assessing control needs: Data gathered through surveillance informs the need for and timing of control interventions.

integrated approaches

  • Combining different control methods: Using a combination of methods, including source reduction, larviciding, and adulticiding, to achieve effective and sustainable mosquito control.
  • Engaging communities: Encouragaing community participation in mosquito control efforts, such as reporting mosquito activity and implementing preventative measures.

personal protection

  • Using insect repellents: Applying insect repellents containing DEET, picaridin, or other EPA-approved active ingredients to protect against mosquito bites.
  • Wearing protective clothing: Covering exposed skin with long sleeves and pants, especially during peak mosquito activity hours.
  • Using mosquito nets: Sleeping under mosquito nets, particularly in areas with high mosquito populations, can help prevent bites.
